Hand Therapy

At Cherrybrook Physio we also offer a hand therapy clinic; Kim McDonald has developed a special interest in hand therapy, having a post graduate degree Rehabilitation of the Hand and Upper Limb. Through further education, clinical experience and independent study, Kim is proficient and specialised in the treatment of upper limb conditions resulting from injury, bone and joint conditions or surgery.

Hand Therapy is the art and science of rehabilitation of the upper limb – shoulder to hand. It involves evaluation and testing to assess the injured limb from which a specific treatment programme can be designed. A variety of specialised treatment techniques are used to achieve these goals.

Some of the conditions that are managed by our therapist include overuse syndromes, repetitive strain injuries, de quervans syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis and other arthritic conditions. Scar management, especially post surgical is also offered.

At Cherrybrook Physio we are also able to splint and provide postoperative care and exercise for all associated injuries.

Splinting is an effective way of immobilising tissues or joints (eg. hand, wrist, foot or ankle) when some movement or flexibility is required for optimum healing.

This can be achieved by supply and fitting of a high quality premade splint or as involved as design and construction of a unique custom made splint crafted for your specific needs.

Splinting combined with gentle physiotherapy exercises is very important in the treatment of most finger tendon tears/surgeries, carpal tunnel syndrome and simple ankle or foot fractures and many other soft tissue and joint injuries throughout the body.

Braces, walking aids and other orthotic devices are also available at Cherrybrook Physiotherapy to provide support, comfort and aid mobility following surgery or an injury. Our physiotherapists are skilled in selecting and fitting the most appropriate support for you.

Our Physios can teach you the correct application and use of your brace or walking aid, including managing stairs, and gait re-education.
